Haridwar Gears Up for Ardh Kumbh 2027: Major Bathing Dates Announced for the Sacred Festival of Faith
Haridwar: The holy city of Haridwar is preparing to welcome lakhs of devotees, saints, akharas, spiritual leaders and pilgrims for the Haridwar Ardh Kumbh 2027, one of the most significant religious gatherings in India. The festival, celebrated on the sacred banks of the River Ganga, is expected to become a grand confluence of faith, spirituality, culture and devotion.
The Ardh Kumbh holds deep importance in the Hindu tradition, as devotees believe that taking a holy dip in the Ganga during the auspicious bathing days helps cleanse sins, purify the soul and bring spiritual merit. Haridwar, known as one of the most sacred pilgrimage centres of India, will once again become the centre of religious activities, spiritual discourses, rituals and cultural gatherings.
According to the announced schedule, the important bathing festivals will begin with Makar Sankranti on 14 January 2027 and continue until Chaitra Purnima on 20 April 2027. During this period, special arrangements are expected to be made for crowd management, sanitation, medical support, traffic control, security and smooth movement of pilgrims across the ghats.
The major bathing dates include Mauni Amavasya on 6 February, Basant Panchami on 11 February, Magh Purnima on 20 February, Maha Shivratri on 6 March, Phalgun Amavasya on 8 March, Mesh Sankranti on 14 April, Shri Ram Navami on 15 April, and Chaitra Purnima on 20 April 2027.

Religious scholars and saints believe that the Ardh Kumbh is not merely a ritualistic gathering, but a living symbol of India’s spiritual heritage. The event brings together people from different regions, traditions and communities, united by their faith in Maa Ganga and Sanatan culture.
The festival is also expected to provide a major boost to religious tourism in Uttarakhand. Hotels, dharamshalas, transport operators, local businesses, food vendors and artisans are likely to see increased activity as pilgrims from across India and abroad arrive in Haridwar.
Authorities are expected to focus on developing temporary facilities, improving ghat infrastructure, strengthening security systems and ensuring cleanliness throughout the festival period. Special emphasis may also be placed on digital information services, lost-and-found centres, emergency response systems and public announcements to guide visitors.
For devotees, the message of the festival remains simple and powerful:
“गंगा मैया की कृपा से — पवित्र स्नान, पुण्य महान।”
As Haridwar prepares for Ardh Kumbh 2027, the sacred city is set to become a grand stage of devotion, discipline, service and spiritual awakening.
