World’s Biggest Hindu Congregation Kicks off

With an intention to make Hindu society vibrant, strong and powerful, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has been organizing Dharma Sansad over last few decades. The Sansad has been able to re-iterate the fact that Hindu religion is the strongest religion globally and it has agenda to spread its wings across the world. All the prominent saints and sadhus from different mutts, peethams and spiritual places are participating in this Dharma Sansad.

Mohan Bhagwat, Pravin Togadia, Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji, Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji, Swami of Adichunchungiri Math, Dr Veerendra Heggade, Prof. M B Puranik, etc participated in the inaugural of the three-day Dharma Sansad that was started today in Udupi. The conclave was started with much fanfare and traditional performances.

The Dharma Sansad returned to Udipi after 32 years, Udipi hosted the second Dharma Sansad in October 31, 1985 wherein the main agenda has been building of Ram Temple.

Prior the inauguration all the dignitaries were brought in a procession from the Sri Krishna Math to the venue. The Dharma Sansad was inaugurated by Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji, while Nirmalanandanath Swami of Adichunchungiri Math released the souvenir Paatheya.’

Mohan Bhagwat Sarasanghchalak of RSS, Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji of Pejawar Math, Dr Veerendra Heggade working president of Dharma Sansad Reception committee, Prof. M B Puranik and others were present.

Building the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, cow protection, eradication of untouchability, social reforms and prevention of religious conversions would come up for discussions in the Dharma Sansad.

Over 2,000 saints, Math heads and VHP leaders from across the country are participating in this historic meet, which would also discuss the issues of discrimination on the basis of caste and gender, and explore ways to ensure harmony within the Hindu society. The much-awaited All India Dharma Sansad began on a grand note here on Friday, with thousands of religious leaders of the Hindu community from all over India converging in a vibrant procession flanked by a rich exhibit of cultural troupes.

Delivering the keynote address, international working president of VHP, Pravin Togadia called upon individuals to take after the Indian constitution and practice secularism as lectured in that genuinely. He rehashed his request to oust untouchability.

Talking about cow slaughter, he stated that the cows support agriculture – their dung can be used as fertilizer and the products obtained from it are of very good use. Agriculture based on cattle can be very rewarding, he said.

He advised all families to get all their children educated. He also wanted everyone to get employed and dreams of ‘Rama Rajya’, an India free of any debt. Vishwa Hindu Parishad secretary general, Champat Rai, also spoke on this grand occasion.

Swamijis and sages were brought to the venue from near Rajangan of Sri Krishna Math accompanied by chanting of Vedic hymns and ‘Poorna Kumbhas’ as per tradition before the commencement of   Dharma Sansad. People and heads of Mathas from various states assembled for the ‘Dharma Sansad’. Over 150 seats were occupied on the dais.

Swamijis of Puthige, Sode, Krishnapur Matha, Vajradehi Rajashekharananda Swamiji, Suttur Shri Shivaratri Deshikendra Swamiji, Kalahstendra Swamiji of Katapadi, Raghaveshwara Swamiji of Ramachandrapur Matha and many others were among the prominent personalities who participated in the programme.

It has been speculated that the Dharma Sansad was being held at Udupi in view of the Karnataka Assembly elections next year.

Vishweshatheertha Swamy said the Sansad was a “100% non-political event” and that no politician will be allowed to share the stage with the Hindu pontiffs and other speakers. He, however, said Union Minister Uma Bharti would be participating in the Sansad in her personal capacity as a “sadhvi”.

Art of Living founder SriSri Ravi Shankar, Sri Nirmalananda Natha Swamy of Vokkaliga community and many more influential religious leaders will addressing the summit in the next two days.
