TTD drops staircase move

With severe criticism from devotees, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) management has withdrawn its proposal of constructing an iron staircase in the temple of Lord Venkateswara.

Speaking to the media TTD Executive Officer Anil Kumar Singha, said that though the intention behind setting-up of the emergency exit was purely in the larger interest of the devotees the management took the decision following reports that sentiments of a section of devotees were hurt. He said the TTD has always respected the sentiments of the devotees. Hence orders for dismantling the temporary structure which is made up of fabricated steel have been issued.

Brushing aside the rumours that the staircase is against the Agama Sasatra’s, he said “The steel stairs will be constructed is in line with agama norms after consulting agama advisors and priests of TTD keeping the larger interests of the pilgrims in view.

Meanwhile TTD is gearing up for the Brahmotsavams,  TTD EO along with JEO KS Sreenivasa Raju and CVSO A Ravi Krishna inspected the galleries in four mada streets to observe the ongoing arrangements for the ensuing annual brahmotsavams. In this connection the EO said, keeping in view the previous experiences, this year we are contemplating to ensure cent per cent comfortable entry and exit to multitude of visiting pilgrims, who throng the hill town for the mega religious fete.
