Tirumala Temple to be closed for 9-days for devotees

Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) made a shocking decision for the devotees of the temple has announced that pilgrims will not be allowed to pray at ( Tirumala Temple ) the shrine for nine days from August 11 owing to the conduct of a special ritual, a senior temple official said today.

TTD Chairman Putta Sudhakar Yadav announced that the temple will stop the visit of devotees from August 9th to 17th because of Ashta Bandhana Balalaya Maha Samprokshanam. According to the board members, around 30,000 devotees would be allowed to participate in the Samprokshanam. The Astabandhana Balalaya Mahasamprokshanam, the vedic ritual prescribed in Agamas, is observed once in 12 years.

The shrine also observes Ankurarpanam on August 11. Due to this, the temple body has decided to cancel all darshans for the nine days. It’s a special religious fete since 1958 for the longevity of the presiding deity as well as the other parivara deities.

An emergency meeting was held with TTD temple officials on Saturday in this regard.

Devotees will be allowed for Lord Venkateswara’s darshan again from August 17th Sources from TTD said, the process of Samprokshanam takes place once in every 12 years and in this regard, TTD board held a meeting and decided to stop darshan for devotees from August 11th 6 am onwards till 17th but they are not prohibited from staying in Tirumala.

The Temple Chairman said that there would be a special convention on August 11th and made it clear that this nine days did not allow devotees to climb the hill. The devotees expressed their anguish over the decision of TTD as they won’t get to visit the temple for nine days.

This meeting has been instrumental in the backdrop of a series of row disputes over the past few days. The decision of the governing council to stop Lord Venkateswara darshan for nine days was taken keeping in view of the allegations made by the former Chief Principal Ramana regarding the missing ornaments from the temple.
