Khalsa Aid Organisation : The Khalsa for Humanity

Khalsa Aid is an international NGO with the aim to provide humanitarian aid in disaster areas and civil conflict zones around the world. The organisation is based upon the Sikh principle of ‘Recognise the whole human race as one’.

Their motto is, “We are a humanitarian organisation working globally to help people from all religions, countries imbibing the values by the great Guru Gobind Singh Ji. We believe in recognising all human race as one and we strive our best to help our fellow brothers and sisters across the globe”

The Focus Punjab initiative

The Focus Punjab initiative forms an integral part of our overseas projects. Launched in 2010, Focus Punjab allows the Sikh Diaspora to provide direct assistance to families living in dire poverty due to various economic, political and social issues such as the drugs epidemic, alcohol addiction, poverty, female infanticide and religious discrimination.

Focus Punjab is primarily dedicated to providing assistance to those families affected by the conflict of 1984 and other needy families across Punjab.  Some of the work carried out includes monthly welfare assistance, upkeep of children’s school fees and food ration programs. Our work has stretched further to provide medical assistance to families and individuals who are otherwise unable to pay for medical expenses. The Focus Punjab initiative has also facilitated house rebuilds for the 1984 affected families and opened faith based learning centres. Read more in the ‘Our Work’ section.

Focus Punjab currently assists 250 families who have been directly affected by the events of 1984. The main breadwinners of the family were either killed in the violence of June 1984 or disappeared in false police encounters that followed. Most of the families have no other means of earning an income and our pensions program provides much needed support.

The repercussions of 1984 also continue to affect the next generation. Many children are unable to attend school because their family are unable to pay the fees. Focus Punjab are assisting 190 children with their educational needs. These project are ONLY possible with the support of the Sangat.

LANGAR AID

FEEDING HUMANITY

Langar Aid is a project by international humanitarian aid organisation Khalsa Aid to support its work on providing humanitarian aid in disaster and war zones.

Langar Aid focuses on fighting hunger worldwide. Providing vital food & water in emergencies where it is needed the most to save the lives of victims of natural disasters, wars and civil conflicts.

We work collaboratively with organisations, Governments and NGOs to effectively coordinate and supply vital nutrition in times of need.

‘Langar’ is a term used to describe the Sikh philosophy of a free kitchen where food is provided to all people, regardless of background, ethnicity, religious beliefs, gender or social status.

KHALSA AID

Since the launch of Khalsa Aid in 1999 our donors have been extremely generous in providing funds to assist those affected by disasters around the globe. We are very proud and honoured to be the first cross border Sikh humanitarian aid agency. The Sikhs are very generous and have always acted to provide assistance to those in need, regardless of race, religion or caste.

Langar in Iraq

Khalsa Aid has been supporting Yezidi and Assyrian refugees in Iraq since 2014. In January 2016 we initiated a food & water project for 200 Yezidi Refugees in Northern Iraq. The food (Langar) provided by Khalsa Aid is the only hope for these families who are living in isolated locations. This is exactly where Langar (free food) is needed.

SNOWDON SUCCESS

Our Mt Snowdon hike took place on 24th of Jun, 2017 and what a great success it was!
Up to 400 people across the UK aged from 10 to 75 years took on the challenge and have raised over £50,000, so far (donations are still coming in).
Fresh food was provided with hot tea by Langar Aid, our organisation that helps to feed homeless people in Coventry. There was more than enough to distribute it to other trekkers who were climbing Mt Snowdon that day too.
A huge well done, congratulations and thank you to all our climbers who took part. We hope you enjoyed the day with family, friends and made new friends along the way up.
You’ve helped to raise a tremendous amount of money once again which will go towards…..
If you’d like to get involved again then we have our 5K run coming up on 13 August 2017 in Hyde Park.

Grenfell Tower Relief

We have been on site since the morning of the tragic fire at Grenfell Tower offering support and aid to the residents who fled from their homes that night, with no possessions other than the clothes they were wearing.

Khalsa Aid team member, Satnam Othee, was the first on the scene and we immediately provided water, snacks and sanitary items. Thanks to local businesses and support from the community we have also been able to supply hot food on site.

Khalsa Aid General Secretary, Bal K Sandhu, who is also a Diabetes clinician with the local NHS trust, assisted people with their diabetes medications and care, on the morning of the fire.

The amount of aid and support has been phenomenal and currently all the relief centres are inundated with clothes, food, toys, toiletries for the families. If you would like to make donations, please check updates online before heading to the area. We have set-up a Facebook page Grenfell tower relief coordination which provides the latest info.

Thank you once again for your generosity and overwhelming response to help the families who are now left with nothing. Our team will work with the local relief centres to continue monitoring what further help they require.

#IamYezidi Exhibition

We are proud to be hosting a photographic exhibition to raise awareness of the persecution faced by Yezidi women in Iraq.

#IamYezidi explores the individual stories of these women who have often escaped slavery or rescued their sons & daughters from ISIS capture. The stories of their pain, sorrow and continued hardship, but also their iron-like resolve to uphold righteousness and honour are captured through vivid portrait photography by award winning photo journalists and Khalsa Aid.
To celebrate International Women’s Day this exhibition aims to capture the jaw dropping stories of these brave women, whilst also paying tribute to their strength.

Hurricane Matthew: Haiti

Nearly 900 people are known to have been killed by Hurricane Matthew in Haiti, with aid officials saying up to 90% of some areas have been destroyed.
Some of the hardest-hit towns are yet to be reached by land, and there are fears more bodies will be found.
Khalsa Aid has been actively undertaking humanitarian projects in Haiti since 2010. Our dedicated relief team are currently in the country making an assessment of damages in the local villages we currently support.
We ask for your support during this difficult time for the Haitian people.
