The sacred portals of Kedarnath Dham, one of the holiest shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva, will officially open for devotees on April 22, 2026, at 8:00 AM, marking the beginning of this year’s much-awaited Char Dham Yatra.

The opening date was ceremonially  on the auspicious occasion of Mahashivratri, in accordance with age-old religious traditions followed by temple authorities.

Sacred Rituals to Precede Opening

As per tradition, the journey of the deity will begin before the temple doors open. The Panchmukhi Doli (palanquin) of Lord Kedarnath will depart from the Omkareshwar Temple on April 19, reaching Kedarnath a day before the opening.

According to mythology, Lord Shiva transformed into a bull to evade the Pandavas, and different parts of his body appeared across the region, forming the sacred Panch Kedar circuit.
