Extracts of Gopi Geet : Sri Pundrik Goswami

Gopi Geet refers to the song of separation from the Bhagwan

In today’s world when we get a chance to hear the truth then it ought to be viewed as an extreme aspiration. Truth federates perfectly with love. They make an excellent couple; rather it blooms under the shade of love. When truth is sufficed with love then it can never be bitter. When truth is effectuated in jealousy, competition, violence, and is only for self interest the truth seems vindictive. It depends why we unfolded our part of truth? For making other person small or we used truth just to establish our hypothesis or we used the truth to make others realize that he is wrong or we used truth just to feed our ego. The truth which is the highest source of joy, a paradigm of bliss becomes tasteless and bitter when is used for self engrossment.

Truth is another name for the infinite consciousness. It is the name for the Supreme Being. If truth is involved in covetousness, rivalry, inhumanity then it is not a source or it can never be a destination, then it is an obstacle. If truth is embodied with love then it is not only charming but also intoxicating. It is something that attenuates our soul. Inception of truth can be very appetizing when dipped in the pot of love, as it keeps truth away from selfishness. As generally suggested truth is never bitter but the circumstances we create to establish the truth makes it bitter. Likewise truth is never an obstacle but when we use it as a stepping stone to crush somebody’s dignity and to establish our superiority it becomes an obstacle .Truth is like a tree which can only offer fruits of humanity, integrity and compassion even when we use stones of selfishness, proudness and cruelty to aim at the tree in favor of fruits. Truth is like mother earth dwelling as a perfect epitome of tranquility, patience and sacrifice. You give her anything she will just provide you with love and care. Pursuing her role and remaining undisturbed even when oppressed.  Earth teaches us forbearance, restrain, and to keep healing even if others injure you. Similarly truth is always pervading, always sweet, always attenuating and remains unchanged even when oppressed by the egotism.

Truth when wrapped in the paper of love becomes an invaluable gift. It is renounced from all the grime just like a contaminated utensil (mind) when cleaned with the soap (satsang) it becomes pious to hold clean water (Supreme Being). Truth is just like an earthen pot which can keep water clean and cool. Emergence of truth in love becomes beatific as it not laced with any narcissism. In fact love perfects itself as an epitome of retirement from self absorption. Love has no space for two; love can be manifested only when two becomes one. Just to evince when there is a crack in the wall it falls and when there is a crack in your heart then walls get constructed dividing the one into two.

Lust is when our actions are centered for achievement of our own happiness and when same actions are rendered for the happiness of others then it is love. Love is something which is selfless and resolute. Something which edifies benevolent surrender and is entails away from galaxies of desire. Kavi raj writes in bengla:

atmaindriya preeti iccha tare boliye kaam

krishnaindriya preeti iccha tare boiye prem

If any karma of yours is established to satisfy your desire then it is lust and any karma if performed as surrender to the lotus feet of godhead is elucidated as love. Love is only about giving, it is all about offering and is far far away from the origins of receiving, the effort and the application is same in both the karmas but if one is extracted to satisfy your personal needs then it is definitely lust and if same is entrusted for the gratification of others then is unquestionably love. It is like a same karma rendered as a service rather than a performance, because performance generates expectations and service enkindles devotion. If love is accompanied by truth then there can nothing more beautiful, nothing more complete and nothing more virtuous. Truth is like supreme Being’s unparalleled manifestation. Something that defines him, something which is one of his prime qualities, something which represents him in this acquisitive world. Truth is another name of the supreme and can u imagine the infinite to be pungent? The supreme being is full of bliss and harmony. All the joyfulness and euphoria of this world cannot justify the magnanimity of even an atom of his holy feet. Shri Krishna is embodied with quintillion and quintillions of pleasure, harmony and compassion. He is addressed as Truth. When none of his incalculable appellatives is capable enough to define him, truth stands apart as his first appellation espoused by Bharma ji and other Gods. When Shri Krishna appeared on the earth all the gods where apprehensive as how to address him , he cannot be called by Gopla, Krishna, Nandlala,Vasudeva,Keshva ,Radharaman as all these names will be offered to him when he performs respective divine characters. At the time of his birth he is addressed as satya –Truth. Truth represents Supreme’s omnipresent nature.

Truth is always welcomed and it is always in its glory. Just like a source of energy empowering all directions with light and positivity. As Shri Krishna is addressed as truth so just like Shri Krishna, truth also bears the qualities – contentment, bliss, beatitude, pious and harmony. Truth like Shri Krishna is always blissful and is never bitter, only our desires make it bitter. The actual apparition of truth is as sweet as nectar collected by a bee. The obligatory nature of truth is pious and engaging. It represents everything that is meritorious and it never leaves its basic nature of being exelampary. It represents everything that is saintly and appealing. Sometimes it may seem sour to us because we have added acidity of our unkindness. It may taste bitter to us when we add jealousy, competiton, distrust, desire, envy and conflicts to its nature. Just like a goldsmith adds other metals to the pure gold so as to make it productive for jewellery manufacturing similarly we add different attributes (other metals) to our life (gold) just to make it productive for this material world and in turn make our life alloyed with impurities of other elements. Thus turning something like truth (gold) to an imperfection (amalgamated metal). When in the company of egotism truth is always distorted and unattractive, while in the company of love truth is always blooming and quintessential. In the company of love truth represents compassion and humility as compared when in arms of egotism truth is used as a weapon to hurt others. It is not put forward to discuss a particular view rather implemented forcibly to harass others view. A loved one discuss truth with his counterpart for the sole purpose of building the other person character , for making a positive change in him , to help him grow n bloom .On the other hand when truth is presented on the crutches of insensitivity its purpose is to demoralize the other person , to make him feel reprehensible and ignominious .

There is another side to the whole story; it’s difficult to listen to the truth rather than to speak the truth. It is amazingly difficult for people to hear the truth, they shy away from it. They will try every possible way out to avoid hearing the truth. Here the emergence of truth completely relies on the theory of economics- there will be no supply when there is no demand, people do not speak truth as others do not want to hear it. Nobody will be hesitant to speak the truth if everyone lends an ear to hear the truth.

Truth is the only quality which can make love uncomplicated. It makes love elementary, it makes it effortless and truth helps you to stay afloat in the idyllic ocean of love. And when in love you not only float but also tend to swim across to the other side of shore with minimal effort. Truth and love make an invincible combination, nothing can bring them down. Love absorbed in truth is most powerful source of energy, when in love we tend to cross oceans of sorrow.  Though love cannot change your karma which may push you in wells of sorrow but like a tranquilizer it eliminates all the pain which is caused by the sorrow. When intoxicated by love nothing bothers you. Another quality defied by love is being apparent. Love always manifests itself like truth as both of them are self-evident. Both are united as they display same characteristics. Love is always on the display you cannot keep it confined and same is with truth. They are like epidemic once in the air then they will spread far n wide.

Most important and difficult thing in this world is to nurture our love when our love advents. To harness our affection is one of the most imperative efforts of this world. Love makes submission as one of your elementary traits and when you acquire true knowledge then also love becomes core of your existence. Now important thing here is not the knowledge but what matters is how you acquired that knowledge. Once you collect knowledge on your own then it comes with a stipulation- to flaunt what you have gained. This knowledge accompanies egotism. This acquisition of knowledge demands fame. It feeds itself on prestige. It needs constant bouts of importance and dominance. This type of knowledge gets old and it’s essential for this type knowledge to die as it is born out of prestige and illustriousness. Anything that is born has to follow the rule of nature- it has to die. If knowledge is born then it ought to die. When curiosity is the father of knowledge then like any other living entity it will fade with time. However when the reason of acquiring knowledge is espoused with love then it blooms, never withers away. Acquiring knowledge is intricate and arduous process but when you are in love of something then this exigent practice turns into a song. Love and affection help knowledge to manifest itself rather than being born out of curiosity. As everything that takes birth gets absorbed in the nature through death similarly knowledge also dies and desire for fame acts as its accomplice to death. Love makes knowledge unpretentious and renunciation makes you inherit love. As against the normal thought process renunciation is not only disownment of materialistic things but also to forsake all of your enmity, resentment and discontent so as to be in a complete state of bliss. Moreover the ultimate goal of knowledge and renunciation is to be immersed in this state of love or bliss. Love is like a sweetener you dissolve it in any peculiarity it turns everything heavenly. Affection is the ultimate tranquilizer which soaks all the pain. Love here does not elucidate to be in constraints of a distinct being. Love here has extensive meaning. It signifies to be humble, to be compassionate, to be a devout and to be saintly, to be loved and to love so as to become precious to the Supreme Being – Shri Krishna. Love as manifested by gopis– selfless and resolute. Love as bestowed by queen of vrindavan –Radha Rani. Love which is manifested in the lifeless entities of Shri vrindavan dham. Love as pure and pious as Radha Rani‘s heart (vrindavan). Love which is galaxies away from the entails of desire .Love which can be characterized by benevolent surrender.

As acquired knowledge will vanish one day but knowledge comprehended under the shelter of truth and love will be immortal. The enlightenment of a soul can be consummated only by earning knowledge under the guidance of a true Guru. This true blissful knowledge cannot be reasoned but only cogitated. If your love (chanting, karma, yagya and other sources of worship) and affection is not seamed by cognitions then you need to cover a lot of distance on your journey, similarly if your knowledge is not encrusted with enlightenment of self you still need to bridge the gap to your final destination. Once you are in the stage of true love towards the supreme then your life becomes full of cognitions – a innate process of bliss, bliss which is acquired effortlessly originating from within. Then you do not need words to express your affection, your gesture speaks volumes about your devotion. Lighting a lamp or offering water to shivling or doing your mala or doing any other form of tap or keeping fasts or any other Puja is symbolic and also practical Shree Krishna explains this life is totally based on ones Karmas, I do not run it and I don’t interfere in it. I am only a witness. I stand close enough to observe whatever is happening – this is my part. On further intriguing questions Shree Krishna educates Uddhav when someone realizes that I am standing close to him he cannot do bad and no bad can come close to him. It is just this realization he has to grow that I am witness of everything. When we commit anything bad we assume nobody is witness to our crime but God is always there watching over us.

Similarly when we light a lamp or in fact go to a mandir or any other religious place we are away from doing bad. It’s a concept educated by our Vedic texts to ensure people are engaged in doing good and helping others. All of the religious or for that matter cultural practices are just based on one concept- be close to the supreme so that you feel connected and do no bad. Some have changed it to fear which is not right. Spirituality is not fear it is only n only love-

Love which translates into surrender and belief , which flows as bliss and harmony. So whenever we go to a religious place or do a religious service it is not the destination we conquered it is all about the journey which transpires us to be positive , joyful , blissful and connected with supreme.

Sow the seed of truth
feed it with the air of love
shower it with the rain of devotion
Add the supplement of renunciation
so you can reap the fruits of realization.
Realization of being One,
realization of being dear to the Lotus feet of Shri Krishna

It is a garden of realization which provides us with beautiful flowers everyday so that we can make a garland of affection so as to offer in the lotus feet of Shri Krishna and take a dip in the nectar of his ultimate bliss. This realizations acts like echo in a cave , it returns to us, similarly these understandings or perceptions carve out more love from our inner self ,making us truthful and in harmony. This enlightenment makes us all complete and initiates us to surrender all to the supreme being- Shri Krishna. These realizations are the reciprocation from the godhead. A sign of our acceptance in his lotus feet as if god himself is responding and confirming that he also loves us in return of our true love for him. When we needle the beads of love and truth we can create a beautiful garland of cognition. We started our journey from truth, rested on love and climbed to the peak of realization. Love and Truth both can be established only through realization though they are self evident still we need to concede as they do not possess any physical attributes. Realization is reciprocation it’s like a follow up when you say somebody I love you and you hear back -I love you too. Even an enigma like love or for that matter truth gets established only when it is reciprocated. Love and truth when communicated through words lose their shine and become acquisitive as compared when someone realizes the truth or love showered by you it becomes a phenomenon. As thoughts and words may not be same but emotions which depict our inner perceptions never lie. When this consciousness is for Shri Krishna it becomes supreme realization because it is the realization of the soul.

Love and truth both have to be realized as they do not corroborate when they are said, they are established only when they are cognized. It’s like a circle when you are in true love;( love reciprocated by surrender) then it becomes a continuous process. A process which starts from truth gets manifested by love and peaks to realization which again confronts you with truth and so on. Now difficult part is to be a welt of this circle. It is only under the guidance of a True Guru that we can cross this ocean of misery to the shore of truth, love and realization.
