Sadhu Vaswani’s 138th Birthday celebrated as International Meatless Day

Sadhu Vaswani’s 138th Birthday celebrated by serving the poor and needy

Mumbai, 26th November; Sadhu Vaswani’s 138th birthday, also observed as ‘International Meatless Day’, was celebrated with singing of kirtan/bhajans and acts of service at the Sadhu Vaswani Mission on 25th November 2017.

The day began a medical camp for animals at Lavale. Free mouth vaccinations were provided for 1500+ animals by the Mobile Veterinarian Clinic of Sadhu Vaswani Mission.

At the Mission, the program began with service to the poor and needy – ‘Daridra Narayan Seva.’ The volunteers lovingly served sumptuous meals to the poor. At the Sadhu Vaswani Chowk, the Pune Municipal Corporation paid a tribute to the great saint by garlanding his statue.

The morning satsang shone with the ‘Havan’ – the holy fire, and the glory of the Guru through devotional ‘bhajans’ and ‘kirtan’. 

70 needy families were given cash and groceries including daal, rice, sugar, tea, cooking oil and toiletries including bathing soap, toothpaste, laundry detergent and coconut oil.

A total of 150 artificial limbs were given to the physically challenged through a camp in Satara. 40 artificial limbs and blankets were given away to the physically challenged at the hands of Rev. Dada J. P. Vaswani in the hall. The recipients were overwhelmed with joy and their faces lit up with gratitude.

One of the recipients, Vitthal Namdeo Indalkar of Dahiwadi, Satara said, “My leg was amputated after a tragic train accident. My family was shattered and my life was thrown out of gear! But the volunteers of the Sadhu Vaswani Mission, knowing of my apathy contacted me and helped me deal with my condition. This is my third time here and I am receiving a replacement limb. I cannot be more grateful to the Mission and Dada. My life now has truly transformed. Today I am a worker at the Local Gram Panchayat and I can do any and every work. Dada has given me a new lease of life. He is the reason I can say I have legs today.”

A total of 50,000 prosthesis limbs have been given by Sadhu Vaswani Mission. 2 lame animals were also given limbs.

The Meatless Day report was read out. 6,699 people turned vegetarian for life, a total of 30,27,635 people pledged to observe November 25th as Meatless Day. In addition, a total of 8,19,66,629 people supported the Meatless Day.

The highlights were as follows:

  • Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh state government declared the closure of all slaughter houses in the state.
  • Slaughter houses in various cities including Pune (Kondwa area), Ulhasnagar, Bhopal, Jhansi, Lilitpur, Kolhapur and Ahmedabad have been officially closed down on Nov 25,2017
  • The esteemed Muslim Organisation of Pune, Imambara Haji Mohammed JavadIsphani, sent in 25 pledges.
  • South East Asian Vegetarian Congress 2017 was held at Penang through the efforts of Sadhu Vaswani center.
  • 3 hotels in Georgia decided to serve only vegetarian food on the 25th of November.
  • Peace marches, rallies and vegetarian food festivals were also organized in various citites to spread awareness for the cause. Thousands took part in peace marches that were held in Pune, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Rajkot, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Madhepura (Bihar), Ulhasnagar and Bilaspur.

In his talk, Dada J.P. Vaswani’s recalled the message of Sadhu Vaswani – ‘To Live is to Give. Those that give live.Those that give not, are no better than dead souls’. Dada related a glimpse from Sadhu Vaswani’s life – One day, Sadhu Vaswani was having his meal.  He was in a rush to attend a meeting in a nearby town. He was hungry. While eating, he heard a passerby saying that she had not eaten for 2 days. He gave away his entire meal to the lady and went on to the meeting.

Sadhu Vaswani Centers in places like Malaysia, London, Hong Kong, Casablanca, New Jersey, St. Maarteen, Singapore and Jakarta also celebrated Sadhu Vaswani’s Birthday through prayers and various service activities. In India prayers and service activities were carried out by Sadhu Vaswani Centres including New Delhi, Mumbai, Coimbatore, Hyderabad, Nasik, Bhopal, Baroda, Rajkot, Ahmedabad and Bengaluru.
